What is more important for sumone…her identity..or is it her birthplace?
I m blogging about something that had happened in my class. I knw fellows, everyone is bored of talking abt north-east. But I simply can’t ignore this one…i was attending my eng class for cat. At the end our teacher wanted us to brush-up through al the states, its capital and its respective chief ministers of India. We covered all from the south til north. I was waiting to see whether he will ask about the N.E also. We came to kolkatta and then went on to the seven sisters. To my utter disgust the teacher wanted to know only about Assam. As if al the other states don’t belong to India. As the class was ignoramus about Assam’s chief minister, so I answered it delightfully. But my eyes were still focussing on him and were flaring with anger. All he had to say for not knowing about the other states, is that they al have an unstable govt. was he encouraging everyone to be ignorant. Amazing how today’s people are still ignorant about there own. I mean talk about the racist attacks on Indians in Down Under!! Aren’t we facing that in our homes ever since?? If a teacher today doesn’t enlighten his students about the north-east, then for sure tomorrow’s future is a dark alley for all of us.
I am already seeing a part of Arunachal Pradesh going into the hands of an impregnable communist country. When I asked our teacher about his views on it, he simply shrugged off by saying that it’s sad that China is taking over it. I mean doesn’t he have anything else to say? It’s an embarrassment to everyone talking about look east policy. Are we all just a joke?? Surely this is not the time of my life. Many would say that it’s a jungle out there, but my fellow citizens, even in those areas we have people willing to fight and die for India. We have a civilization there, with thousands of men and women paying regular taxes so that there grieves are looked after by the Centre. We have daily terror attacks but that doesn’t stop our normal life. But who doesn’t have problems in their own back-yard. Look at the US, they have been badly hit by the people, who at first, were funded to fight for America. Well that hasn’t stopped any business trips to US or infact any family vacations. We are all living in a web of hypocrisy. So why are we ignoring our own people? Everyone should visit northeast and feel the warmth of its people and be mesmerized by it’s little known nature, filled with colourful birds and plants. I know we are all scared of our lives, but you can’t blame everyone in the state coz of its terrorist problems. We believe that by demanding a separate state won’t answer all our problems. It’ll only bring out hatred and gloom our lives forever.
I call out to my family, Indians, north-east is alive but it needs your support to strengthen itself and wipe out the insurgents to live a terror-free life.
The step mother treatment handed out to the NE states has been a shameful chapter in the history of India. I'd like to point out that the same prejudice plagues much of Bihar too. This was specially so during the reign of our ex-CM Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav. Bihar was treated as the probably the garbage bin of the country, where one could go to get cheap unskilled labor. Though the situation has changed now, with Bihari students being accepted as quite intelligent now, and with better law and order thanks to a change in government, it still offers us a grim reminder that whatever change we want to see in our states must be brought into reality by our hands. Till then, we are a nation for just the name's sake.
